Foreign diplomatic institutions of Ukraine exercise powers of citizenship in respect of persons who, according to the current legislation of Ukraine, are permanently resident abroad (except for obtaining citizenship of Ukraine at birth, which is also carried out for persons who are temporarily abroad).
The application for citizenship shall be submitted in writing, stating the date of its drafting, and shall be signed by the applicant. The applicant and the other nationality documents are submitted by the applicant in person.
A child's citizenship application is signed by one of her parents or another legal representative of the child. The application and other documents concerning the child's nationality are submitted by one of his parents or another legal representative of the child at the place of residence of the child or one of his parents or other legal representative.
A person who has registered a marriage before reaching the age of majority or who has been granted full civil capacity to attain majority in accordance with the Civil Code of Ukraine, signs and submits the citizenship application independently.
If the applicant is unable to sign the application due to illiteracy or physical disabilities, another person signs the application upon his / her request.
If there are valid reasons (applicant's illness, natural disaster, etc.), the application and other nationality documents at the applicant's request may be filed by another person or sent by post.
The application and other documents concerning the citizenship of the incapacitated person are signed and submitted by their guardian.
When submitting an application and other documents concerning citizenship to a foreign diplomatic institution of Ukraine, a document identifying the applicant and his / her permanent residence abroad shall be presented.
