On April 26, 2026, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Iraq, Ivan Dovhanych, took part in a ceremonial event organized by the Ministry of Culture of Iraq in honor of Iraqi writer and translator Abbas Aziz Ali Abbas Aziz Ali , in recognition of his work dedicated to Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko. The event was attended by prominent writers, poets, and cultural figures of the Republic of Iraq.

In his welcoming remarks, the Ambassador expressed sincere gratitude to Mr. Abbas for introducing Arabic-speaking readers to the works and life of the Kobzar — a poet who wrote about freedom, dignity, and love for his homeland. He emphasized that translation is not merely linguistic work, but a true cultural bridge between two nations with rich poetic traditions.

The audience warmly received the greeting speech in Arabic delivered by Maksym Balykin, Consul of the Embassy of Ukraine in Iraq, who highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between Ukrainian and Arab cultures.
