On May 18, 2026, Ukrainian Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq, Ivan Dovganych, met with Director of the Economic Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq Mr. Botan Dizayee to discuss pressing matters of bilateral cooperation in trade and the economy. During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral ties and maintaining a constructive dialogue. They agreed that continued engagement would foster the development of mutually beneficial cooperation for the well-being of both the Ukrainian and Iraqi peoples.

The parties agreed that an important instrument of mutually beneficial trade and economic relations between two countries is the Joint Ukrainian-Iraqi Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation. In this regard, they emphasized the importance of resuming this year the work of this bilateral body, which will intensify interaction and provide a new impetus to trade and economic relations.
