On February 12, 2025, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Iraq Ivan Dovhanych met the Minister of Oil of the Republic of Iraq Hayan Abdul Ghani to discuss issues of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, in particular, in the field of oil and gas production.

During the meeting it was emphasized that there are many potential opportunities for developing cooperation between Ukraine and Iraq in the energy sector. Despite the long lasting war with the Russian Federation, which has already been going on for three years, Ukraine has significant experience and technical capabilities for the participation of Ukrainian companies in energy projects in Iraq. In particular, practical issues related to the implementation of the gas extraction contract at the Akkas field, carried out by the company "UkrZemResurs," were discussed.

The Iraqi minister welcomed the presence of oil and gas Ukrainian enterprises on the Iraqi market mentioning that the main requirements for their participation in the projects are appropriate experience, technical equipment and personnel as well as an effective approach to solving the technical tasks set.
